If things are saved and shut and you'll be away a while, turn the machine off. Anyway, if you are running a Mac Pro in a studio situation I have no idea why you'd sleep it in the first place, if stuff you are working on is *open* then leave it open while you go get your lunch. The advice about sleep is correct, DO NOT sleep the Mac Pro if you have *any* of these USB3.0 cards installed, since the card will not wake up after sleep, and you'll get messages about disk drives not ejected properly. In essence you have a lot more connectivity than the newer, incredibly expensive, graphically unstable, completely abandonded trashcan Ive Pro. I have a 2 port eSATA card, then the USB3.0 card below it, and this combo has extended the function of the Mac Pro a lot. It makes a HUGE difference in disk speed, I basically never, ever used USB2.0 hard drives of any sort historically because of the woeful speeds, but the USB3.0 card in the Mac Pro makes all sorts of externals completely useable. A very cheap upgrade to the trusty old Mac Pro. Inateck is working great here (ML & El Cap), doesn't require a driver, in 5.1 Mac Pro. Also I could later plug in an Audio Interface to it (my Babyface is only USB 2 I think), now I don't think or I don't think if it makes any difference at all if such a thing is connected over USB 2 or 3, but yeah… #noobhere Maybe my thought was useless and it makes no difference. (it's sold like that)Īnd so I thought "why not get USB 3 to get maximal performance?" Your solution requires whatever you will connect to your Mac to have eSATA, no? Basically I bought NI Komplete Ultimate and it comes with a hard drive with USB 3. Ĭheers johnYup it's a dual processor! But I'm not sure if I get what you mean. Those ports are great and you can run whatever external drive you wish. or i still cannot find mine !!! i brought the eSata ports out to an extra PCI slot !!! the Single Processors do not have these extra ports. I bought a ThermalTake Toaster for drives and it has USB 2.0 / eSata - i used to run it off one of the Extra internal Sata Ports on a Dual Processor MacPro. but not sure how much Kit is out there for that anymore. Is your beast a Dual Processor ? eSata is another route.
